The last 12 months have been full of big moments. Here is a recap of some of the year's most talked viral events and pop culture moments.

2018 is nearly over and we don't think we'll be forgetting this roller coaster ride any time soon. The memes came hot and ready, as did the year's incredible music and pop culture moments. From the birth of Stormi Webster to the never-ending celebrity feuds, and the internet's love affair with Noah Centineo - 2018 didn't pull any punches.

The last 12 months have been full of wild moments, so here's a recap of some of the year's most talked about viral events.

1) People ate Tide pods.

Remember the Tide Pod Challenge? The internet was off to a great start in 2018. People uploaded videos of themselves biting into laundry detergent tablets, leading the company to warn against the effects of ingesting laundry detergents. Of course, it went on to become one of the first memes of the year as people joked about their desire to eat the multi-coloured pods.

2) Kylie Jenner revealed that, yes, she had been hiding her pregnancy for 9 months (which everyone had kinda guessed already).

Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott welcomed baby Stormi Webster into the world in February 2018. The pair had kept news of Kylie's pregnancy quiet for nine months, explaining that Jenner "needed to prepare for this role of a lifetime in the most positive, stress free, and healthy way I knew how."

3) Stormi Webster's first picture became the most liked photo ever on Instagram.

Stormi Webster's Instagram debut has spent much of 2018 as the most liked Instagram photo of all time. Can you imagine your first ever public photo being liked 18 million times?

4) Mason Ramsey, the yodelling Walmart kid, launched a whole career after becoming a meme in April.

Mason Ramsey first earned the internet's attention after a video of him yodelling in Walmart went viral all the way back in April. He was dubbed the yodelling Walmart kid and even called "Lil Hank" for his rendition of Hank Wiliiams' "Lovesick Blues". Of course, Mason appeared on Ellen soon after and even got to perform at Coachella.

Since then, Mason has been signed by Atlantic Records and released plenty of non-Hank Williams related tunes.

5) Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg testified before Congress and got asked "how does Facebook make money?"

Facebook's CEO went before Congress to address issues surrounding the company's use of user data. Zuckerberg gave multiple days of testimony, answering questions like "how does Facebook make money" and "is Twitter the same as what you do?"

6) Kanye West said slavery sounded like "a choice" in a May TMZ interview and then went to the White House in October.

A lot went on with Kanye West this year. The rapper became a father for the third time, released an album, and had a lot to say about Trump and er...slavery, I guess.

"When you hear about slavery for 400 years," he said in the TMZ interview. "For 400 years? That sounds like a choice. You was there for 400 years and it's all of y'all. I like the word prison because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks."

Later, in October, Kanye West visited the White House wearing a red Make America Great Again hat.

7) The Yanny vs. Laurel debate divided the internet.

Yanny vs. Laurel, aka the great debate of 2018, had the internet majorly divided over an audio clip that some heard as "Yanny" and others heard as "Laurel". Everyone from celebrities to your co-workers and parents had their own thoughts on what was being said in the clip, leading people to call it The Dress 2.0.

8) Roseanne Barr got booted off a show called "Roseanne" because of a Bad Tweet.

Can you believe the Roseanne Barr tweet incident happened in 2018? Roseanne Barr was written off the Roseanne reboot after after a since-deleted tweet comparing former Obama advisor, Valerie Jarrett, to a monkey.

Roseanne blamed her sleeping medication at the time, but has since apologised. She was still killed off of Roseanne, which returned to ABC as The Connors a few months later.

9) There was a world cup.

32 countries competed in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. France beat Croatia in the final. "It's coming memes" from England fans also managed to capture the country's hope for its first World Cup win since 1966.

10) People jumped out of cars for the 'In My Feelings' challenge.

Celebrities and teenagers alike took part in the "In My Feelings" challenge, centred around a Drake song of the same name. People jumped out of moving cars to perform a viral dance in what was possibly the most 2018 thing that happened in 2018.

11) Azealia Banks said she was at Elon Musk's house waiting for Grimes.

In a series of Instagram stories and tweets, rapper Azealia Banks alleged that she had "literally been sitting at Elon Musk's house alone for days waiting for Grimes to show up and start these sessions."

What she claimed to have seen during her stay at Elon's house went on to inspire some solid Elon Musk Azealia Banks mansion memes.

12) The internet fell in deep and extreme love with Noah Centineo over the summer.

Noah Centineo starred in Netflix's To All the Boys I've Loved Before and Sierra Burgess Is A Loser. The 22-year-old actor charmed audiences all over the world and even had fans meme-ing his extremely innocuous tweets.

13) Cardi B and Nicki's alleged fashion week run-in

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj's long-running tensions came to a head back in September when TMZ reported that the two allegedly had a run-in at a NYFW party. That evening, Cardi B was photographed leaving a New York venue with a knot on her head.

Months later, they both addressed the situation, trading barbs on social media before calling a tentative truce.

14) Americans got text messages from the President...and then it became a meme

A test of the US Presidential alert system unsettled some but led to a pretty hilarious memes where people parodied messages sent using the system.

15) Lana Del Rey told Azealia Banks to "pull up"

In what might be the most unlikely Twitter spat of 2018, Lana Del Rey tweeted that Azealia Banks should "pull up" after the rapper criticised Lana's comment against Kanye West's October pro-Trump SNL speech.

The two went back and forth briefly, inspiring their fair share of memes and reactions.

15) Batman's penis was published in the comics for the first time

Batman's penis caused a bit of a scene after a silhouette of the hero's phallus was published for the first time ever. Presumably, after registering readers' shock, DC comics confirmed that it would not be making Batman's penis a regular feature moving forward.

16) Ezra Miller had some iconic looks for his Fantastic Beasts press tour.

Ezra Miller's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald red carpet looks charmed fans ahead of the film's theatrical release. He wowed people on the internet with an all-black look as well as an all-white look reminiscent of Harry Potter's owl Hedwig.

17) "Blackfishing" became a term after people were accused of artificially darkening their skin for internet popularity

The internet was not pleased after a trend of "blackfishing" was exposed by an exhaustive Twitter thread. Women were alleged to have altered their features in order to appear mixed race, prompting social media outrage.

18) A big Australian cow got super famous.

In some ways, a 6' 3" cow named Snickers was the biggest story of the year. The cow was deemed too big to slaughter and its appearance had the internet absolutely shook over its size and width, inspiring some truly iconic memes.
